HTC Incredible S Review

HTC-Incredible-S_1Well, sometimes it seems life can be incredible – spurting out random fits of laughter while it watches you battle with lack of time. You may have noticed my lack of activity lately, mostly a result of University. But thanks to my mobile I haven’t missed too many agendas!

HTC have always seemed to create suitable names for its vast array of mobile phones, and it’s no surprise that the Incredible S has lived up to the expectations delivered with its name.

Specifications

  • CPU: 1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon
  • Platform: Android 2.3
  • Memory: Internal (1.1GB), RAM (768MB)
  • Size/Weight: 120 x 64 x 11.7 mm, 135.5 grams
  • Display: 4-inch touch screen
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.1, W-Fi (b/g/n), 3.5 mm stereo, micro-USB
  • Camera: 8 megapixel with autofocus and dual LED flash, 1.3 megapixel front camera, 720p HD video recording

Look and Feel

The Incredible S is yet another sleekly designed phone from HTC, with thought put in for every aspect of the phone. I especially liked the back of the phone, seamlessly rubberised to prevent slips from your hand. The overall size of the phone is perfect, touting a very reasonable screen without the “it-can’t-fit-in-your-pocket” aspect.

However, whilst one of the key features of this phone is the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the phone, I found this feature to be useless after the initial intrigue. Whilst this is a fantastic feature in theory, I can’t personally see the benefit when comparing my usage with other phones.

HTC’s implementation of Android 2.3 on this device has exceeded all expectations, running smoothly out-of-the-box. Flicking in and out of menus, browsing the web, and installing apps was a breeze – even after heavy usage.

Camera

The phone has a pretty stock-standard camera built in – with 8 megapixels and dual LED flash. Together with autofocus, a feature HTC seems to always get right,  the camera takes fantastic photographs and videos (in 720p High Definition)!

The phone also comes with a fairly basic front-facing camera, but still perfect for its main purpose – video calling or self-portraits!

Wrap-Up

It’s no wonder that all of the phone operators in Australia are getting on board with this phone – together with its lustrous design, this phone proves to be an extremely fast and enjoyable Android experience.

This phone is available from MobiCity, my favourite mobile retailer, for $569 (or $649 for the NextG counterpart)!

Great review Michael! It would be great to have click through links of high resolution versions of the example photos :)
    Besides that, very informative!

  2. Christopher says:

Its unfortunate that they use such an old CPU in this phone. However the design is fairly solid and the phone is also one of HTC’s first to support NFC which might be useful in the future.

  3. Hi Christopher,

    Thanks for your comments!

Your comments regarding the CPU are true, however I honestly find that experiencing the phone first hand is better than assuming that a newer CPU would provide a better experience. I found this phone incredibly fast, with absolutely no lag. To be fair, I’d probably consider this phone over a new Dual-Core phone, purely for the extended battery life. But obviously, there is a reason why there are such a vast amount of phones available on the market – people want different things in a phone, and it’s fantastic that the support is there for it.

In regards to the NFC, whilst Android 2.3 supports this feature, as far as I am aware the phone does not have the chip inside the phone – so the phone itself will not support it. Maybe there will be the ability to add this feature at a later date, but at this point in time that feature is not supported by this model.

    Thanks again for your comments,

    Michael.

  4. Hi Nathan,

Thank you very much for your kind comments!

Unfortunately this was an oversight on my part, so I will add this shortly. Thank you for your fantastic suggestion.

    Michael.

    Hey Michael,

Great review on the Incredible S. Currently I’m looking at the HTC Sensation and the Incredible S, and am not sure which to get. What are your views? Would love to hear.

    Amanda.
