Optus 4G Review

Posted by | Posted in Reviews | Posted on 15-11-2012

In the current day and age where looking across a train carriage is met with many glowing faces all surfing the internet on their mobile devices, it is hard to believe that large enabler for this activity, 3G, was launched a mere 7 years ago. And whilst it’s served us quite well, the constant push for further content across mobile devices has caused no surprise that all Telcos in Australia are running fast paced to launch 4G access to their customers.

Optus, the second largest telecommunications provider in Australia, has recently launched 4G access in selected areas of Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane CBD and Surfers Paradise, with plans to extent the coverage at an exponential rate. Thanks, as always, to the amazing Optus Social Media team, I have had the opportunity to spend the past month with the Optus E589 Mini WiFi Modem – a 4G device that connects to a maximum of 5 wifi enabled devices at any one time. Motorola Xoom–Review

Posted by | Posted in Motorola Zoom, Reviews | Posted on 22-07-2011

Well, it’s near the end of my Motorola Xoom review, thanks to Optus! As I’ve already covered much of the hardware aspects in my last review, this time I’m focusing more on software functionality and what I’ve found in the past three weeks.

General Interface / Settings

I must admit, when I first started to use the Xoom, I was constantly baffled by various tasks that should have been relatively simple. While I’ve managed to get the hang of it now, I don’t believe it’s as intuitive as it should be. Once you’ve learned how to use it you’re fine, but beginning users can be easily overwhelmed. For example, the buttons on the bottom left hand corner of the screen (those that allow you to switch between applications and perform specific tasks) are hard to understand at first glance.

HTC Incredible S Review

Posted by | Posted in HTC Incredible S, Reviews | Posted on 13-05-2011

HTC-Incredible-S_1Well, sometimes it seems life can be incredible – spurting out random fits of laughter while it watches you battle with lack of time. You may have noticed my lack of activity lately, mostly a result of University. But thanks to my mobile I haven’t missed too many agendas!

HTC have always seemed to create suitable names for its vast array of mobile phones, and it’s no surprise that the Incredible S has lived up to the expectations delivered with its name.

HTC 7 Mozart: Photos and Videos

Posted by | Posted in HTC 7 Mozart, Reviews | Posted on 24-11-2010

The camera function isn’t something that HTC promotes extensively on it’s HTC 7 Mozart, but it’s certainly nothing to overlook! With its simplistic use and ease of access, the camera function on this phone will satisfy most consumers.

HTC 7 Mozart: Unboxing

Posted by | Posted in HTC 7 Mozart, Reviews | Posted on 16-11-2010

HTC7Mozart (13)You would have heard about Microsoft’s new phone operating system, Windows Phone 7 Series. That is, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks. So it comes to no surprise that HTC have flooded the market with a vast range of mobile devices with this new and exciting OS.

I’ve been given a review unit, thanks to MobiCity, so over the next week I will be using this phone and tweeting (@MobiReviews) about my experiences – which I will then wrap up in a blog post at the end of the week. But, for now, let’s get on with the unboxing!

Nokia N8: Google Apps, Nokia E-mail, Twitter, Facebook

Posted by | Posted in Nokia N8, Reviews | Posted on 25-10-2010

I had a few requests for information on Google’s Applications on the Nokia N8, and their own Social Networking tools. I don’t have too much to say about either, aside from the continual issues I had with the social networking (which took a few days to start working fine) and that the Google Maps application was fast, but I figured I may as well upload these galleries for you to take a look at!

Nokia N8: Interface

Posted by | Posted in Nokia N8, Reviews | Posted on 21-10-2010

scr000001Carl Butcher asked if I could post "some screenies of the user interface in general”, and to be honest – I’m glad he did! The interface is something I’ve been quite sceptical about, but am glad I’ve had a chance to give it a go.

If you’re like me, when you spend $700 on a new phone, you want it to be absolutely amazing and something you’ve never seen before. But, when you turn on the Nokia N8, and you’ve used a symbian device before, you’ll be annoyed. I found the fact that it was so similar to other devices annoying at first, but after using it for a day, I’ve learned to appreciate that I know how to use all the functions of the device – even though it’s been such a short time.

Nokia N8: A day out in the wilderness

Posted by | Posted in Nokia N8, Reviews | Posted on 20-10-2010

What better way to review a phone than to take it out in a spin! I figured a day out in the city, with the sun brightly above me, would be an excellent test for the Nokia N8.

There were a couple of things I really wanted to test out – and they were the battery life, the ‘screen-in-sunlight’ issue and the camera.

Nokia N8: Unboxing

Posted by | Posted in Nokia N8, Reviews | Posted on 19-10-2010

I have to admit – when I was told MobiCity would be shipping me a Nokia N8 to review, I was both excited and worried. I was excited that I would be able to try out a new phone, and share my review. But, at the same time, I was worried – I had agreed that I would use this phone as a complete replacement to my current phone for the whole week. Considering I am very sceptical of this phone, it should be very interesting.
